'Dogs even series against Rebels

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team evened out the series with a 3-1 victory over UNLV on Friday night at Margie Wright Diamond.

The Bulldogs outhit the Rebels 7-5 on the evening. Sophomore Avery Lawley hit a team-best two hits and logged an RBI. Right-handed pitcher Cassidy West went the distance for Fresno State in the circle to earn her 10th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UNLV took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after plating a run on a two-out single.

Fresno State answered back in the next inning to tie the game 1-1. Lawley hit a leadoff single to get the Bulldogs

started. Kacey Hvitved came in clutch with a two-out RBI single to right field to tie the game.

West and the defense retired the Rebels in order in the next frame. Fresno State extended its lead in the bottom of the inning. Keahilele Mattson drew a walk and Alesia Denby brought her across home plate with a double to right field. Lawley came in clutch again with an RBI single to the shortstop to make it a 3-1 for the Bulldogs. 

The 'Dogs held the Rebels without a run for the three innings to secure the win.

WHAT'S NEXT

Fresno State and UNLV will finish the series tomorrow at Noon PT. The 'Dogs will celebrate seven seniors.
