Bulldog Bones

Fresno State remains No. 6 in this week's CWPA national team rankings.

The Bulldogs defeated Santa Clara 24-8 last time out, moving to 2-0 in conference play.

The 24 goals scored against the Broncos were the second-most for the Bulldogs in a game in program history and the most in a GCC game.

Fresno State is averaging 22.0 goals per game in conference play so far this year.

The Bulldogs have scored 20 or more goals in a game just seven times in conference play, and twice so far this season.

Fresno State's leading scorer is junior Hailey Andress with 48 goals.

Senior Brooke Ochoa leads the 'Dogs with 66 points, on 47 goals and 19 assists.

Ochoa was named the GCC Player of the Week this week, following a career-best 11 points in the game at Santa Clara last weekend.

Ochoa earned her second player of the week nod, joining Abbey Simshauser with one. Fresno State has had a GCC-leading three player of the week honors this season.

Fresno State has won its last eight games in the series with CBU.

Its only loss to the Lancers was a 13-10 loss in the GCC championship tournament in 2018.

Fresno State is coached by head coach Natalie Benson, who has a 108-77 all-time record leading the Bulldogs.

GCC Flashback

Fresno State returns as the reigning Golden Coast Champions, for the fourth year in a row. The Bulldogs have been the tournament champion for four-straight years, and the regular season champion in three of the last four years.

In regular season play, Fresno State has only lost two regular season GCC games in the last four years.

Fresno State has an all-time record of 36-9 in Golden Coast Conference play, and is 28-2 in the last four seasons.

The GCC Player of the Week

Fresno State senior utility player Brooke Ochoa has earned Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week honors for the second time this season, the conference office announced Thursday. Ochoa led the team with 11 points in the win over Santa Clara last Saturday.

Ochoa led the team with a career-best 11 points, scoring six goals with five assists to earn GCC Player of the Week honors for March 12. She tied her career-best in both goals and assists against the Broncos. Ochoa scored her six goals on six shots. The senior also added three steals, one drawn exclusion, one field block and had two sprint wins.

Ochoa is the first two-time GCC Player of the Week honoree this season. Her two honors in 2025 are the only ones of her career, despite her decorated career up to this point. Fresno State has a league-leading three players of the week so far this season.

Another week, another program record

Two weeks ago, it was Brooke Ochoa who tied the single game program record with six goals at UCLA. Last week, Ochoa scored six goals AGAIN. However, teammate Hailey Andress scored seven for a new program record. Prior to Andress' new record, seven different players had scored six goals for the Bulldogs, including Ochoa twice in as many weeks.

The single game goal record for Andress is her second single game program record as she also has the most steals in a game with six.

Creepin' up on some big numbers

Although Ochoa was passed for the single game program record for goals, she has found herself slowly approaching the program's all-time leading scorer mark. Ochoa currently has 190 career goals. She is just five goals away from tying the all-time program record, set by Emily Nicholson (2018-22).

Veterans leading the way

Along with Andress and Ochoa, senior Abbey Simshauser has been a steady attack for the Bulldogs. Simshauser adds 31 goals on the year. The trio combines for 126 goals of the team's 201 this season. All three have earned All-Conference and All-American honors in their career. The 2025 season has been no different as they look to lead Fresno State to its fifth straight GCC title.

The three are also all in the record book, in various statistical categories. Fresno State has had six players all-time score 100 career goals, and Andress, Ochoa and Simshauser are three of those six.

Newest member of the club

While Simshauser is third on the team in scoring this season, she put up five goals in the Bulldogs GCC opener against CUI with her fifth being her 100th scored as a Bulldog. She became the fastest player in program history to score 100 career goals. The transfer Bulldog hit the 100 goal mark in her 41st career game.
