'Dogs defeated by Cal Poly, 13-5

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team was defeated 13-5 by the Cal Poly Mustangs on Monday at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs got on the board first, scoring a run in the opening frame when Murf Gray doubled and drove in Owen Faust, who had led off the inning with a single.

The Mustangs answered in the third with two solo home runs. Cam Schneider hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at two.

The Mustang bats exploded in the top of the eighth as they scored eight runs on six hits including a three-run home run. Cal Poly recorded four more hits and a pair of runs in the sixth to extend the Bulldog deficit.

Griffen Sotomayor and Cam Schneider both hit solo home runs in the bottom of the sixth, making it a 12-4 game.

Cal Poly scored its final run of the game in the seventh, the club's fourth home run of the game.

Max Shor singled down the left line in the ninth to drive in one final run for the Bulldogs, but Fresno State could not overcome the deficit and fell 13-5.

NOTES

Cam Schneider hit his first career home run.

Max Shor recorded his first career hit and RBI.

BJ Rodriquez pitched a career high of 1.2 innings and struck out a career high of three batters.

The Bulldogs will host New Mexico for a Mountain West conference series beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. PT at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
