RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State baseball team dropped the series finale against Nevada, 9-8 in extra innings on Sunday.
The loss puts the Bulldogs in a three-way tie for first place in the Mountain West standings with a 15-9 record, 23-24 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, the Wolf Pack got on the scoreboard first with a two-RBI double.
The 'Dogs and Pack sat scoreless for a pair of innings before the Bulldogs scored for the first time in the fourth. Eddie Saldivar singled to center field to lead off the inning, and Murf Gray sent him across the dish with a double down the left field line. Bobby Blandford tacked on a pair of runs with a home run to right center.
The Wolf Pack regained the lead in the sixth inning after a two-run long ball.
The lead was short-lived as the Bulldogs tied the game in the seventh. Sky Collins singled to the pitcher, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Griffen Sotomayor hit a sacrifice fly that scored Collins and tied the game at four.
Jett Ruby and Cam Schneider both had RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning. Sotomayor and Gray hit a solo home run each, giving the Bulldogs an 8-4 lead in the ninth.
A four-run bottom of the ninth gave the Wolf Pack the momentum they needed to extend the game into extra innings, with five hits in the frame.
Fresno State went down in order in the top of the tenth inning, and a bases-loaded single allowed the Wolf Pack to walk off against the Bulldogs, 9-8.
NOTES
This is the Bulldogs' second series loss in MW play in 2025.
Murf Gray has hit a home run in three straight games.
This is Fresno State's ninth game with more than one home run hit.
