CHAMP! Jackson claims discus national title

EUGENE, Ore. - Fresno State senior Cierra Jackson is the 2025 women's discus national champion with a NCAA meet record throw of 65.82m/215-11 on her first attempt at the Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Jackson is Fresno State's first-ever outdoor national champion, and first individual champion since 1999 (Melissa Price, pole vault, indoor).

"I have disappointed myself multiple times, so coming out here and not giving up and still continuing to throw, and then coming out and winning a national title is amazing to me," said Jackson following her event. "This truly means a lot."

The senior Bulldog broke the NCAA meet record that was previously set in 2021 with a mark of 65.01m/213-3. Her own previous personal best was 64.42m/211-4, set earlier this season.

Her throw on Saturday moved her up to No. 7 on the all-time collegiate list.

Jackson earned first team All-America honors in the shot put on Thursday, finishing eighth in the event. With her first place finish in the discus today, she is the first Bulldog to earn two first team All-American honors in the same season in program history. Jackson concludes her outdoor career as the most decorated thrower in program history.
