Bulldogs complete FISU World University Games, Kalmar appears in two finals

BERLIN - Aliz Kalmar and Jenna Pulkkinen completed the six-day FISU World University Games in Germany this afternoon at the SSE Aquatic Complex. Over the six day of competition, Kalmar saw two finals appearances in the 100 & 200 breaststroke, placing fourth in both events.

As expected, both Bulldogs excelled in the breaststroke with consistency as they qualified into the semifinals of the breaststroke disciplines.

The pair of breastrokers' fell shy of swimming in the 50 breast finals as Kalmar took 10th place and Pulkkinen held 11th.

In the 200 breaststroke, the Bulldogs came out of prelims stronger to both make it into the semifinals. Kalmar made her first debut in finals of the week. As the final 50 meters of the race came, Kalmar was one of only two splits under 38 seconds. Kalmar was out-touched by Spain's Gonzalez by thirty-four hundredths of a second to sit in fourth place.

Both Bulldogs grabbed their spot in another semifinals race in the 100 breaststroke. The Hungarian once again returned to the finals after posting a time of 1:08.31, good for fifth. Pulkkinen was three spots shy of finals contention finishing 11th overall with a time of 1:09.38. It was a battle till the end, Kalmar was a stroke behind Canada's Branton that handed the Hungarian the fourth place finish.
