Ben Maller: “Daniel Jones will be making $82 million guaranteed. This guy is a bum and they gave him $82 million. What a world the NFL is right now. The Giants wont admit this but there are a lot of people who are going to have some stomach aches in the coming months and the coming years. The Giants are the laughing stock of the football world right now. This is an UGLY day. U-G-L-Y. What are we doing here?? WHAT THE 'F' ARE WE DOING HERE? No Giants apologists would confuse the Giants as a legitimate beast of the NFC East. They had a surprise year, they won a bunch of close games, things broke their way, congratulations, but is it sustainable? You’ve got to be a skeptic. The Giants have fallen victim to one of the oldest and crudest weak spots in the human condition. We see it all the time in sports. Daniel Jones is profiteering because the Giants are suffering from an old fashioned case of ‘FOMO’. ‘Fear of missing out’, worried that Daniel Jones was going to continue to blossom and go somewhere like Carolina or Houston and have success, and that would have been heartbreaking to those New Yorkers. Giants fans were convinced that this was the start of something wonderful, that the Giants had opened up the purse strings and paid out tons of dough to keep the band together. The problem is that the band had produced dud, after dud, after dud, and had finally come out with a hit but it wasn’t a platinum record, it was a somewhat popular cult song, and that’s all it took for the money to be flying everywhere. This group with Danny Dimes and Saquon Barkley were one-hit wonders.” (Full Segment Above)
Listen to Ben Maller of Fox Sports Radio blast the New York Giants for giving Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million deal, as Maller called it an ‘ugly day’ in Giants history.
Jones did complete a 2022 season where he finished sixth in the league in QBR, had the lowest INT% in the NFL, and even won a playoff game, but he threw just 15 touchdown passes in 16 games, averaged only 200.3 passing yards per game, and posted an ugly 10.8 QBR game in their blowout Divisional Round loss to the Eagles.
Check out the audio above as Maller details why the Giants panicked in Jones’ contract negotiations and caved for a ‘one-hit wonder’ and a ‘bum.’
